When you need a specialist fork truck who do you turn to?
That’s the question a high profile multi national business with a multi million pound manufacturing facility in Coventry recently asked itself after having little success with other fork truck suppliers in providing a solution or meeting their brief.
The company needed to handle expensive specialised tooling equipment brought in from Europe for installation onto multi million pound blow moulding machinery producing in excess of 800,000 fuel systems a year for some of the automotive industries highest regarded car manufacturer’s.
The main requirement was for a gas powered fork truck to lift in excess of 8000kg at extended load centres, In essence a fork truck that could lift 12000kg on the same size chassis of as an 8 tonne truck in order that the physical size would also be practical. The forks also needed to be manufactured to fit a particular size transportation framework.
Following several visits to site to finalise the specification, West Mercia’s David Stanley took the challenge of finding the ideal machine and ensured the customer West Mercia would put the time and effort into finding the solution the right machine for the job.
After extensive searching in the UK with poor results, David expanded his search to mainland Europe. Having located the perfect truck in Germany, West Mercia arranged for their senior technical engineer and Service Manager, Glenn Draper, to fly out to fully inspect the truck prior to purchase. The truck was then shipped back to West Mercia to undergo the workshop programme specifically tailored to the customer’s requirements. This included additional safety features and site speed restriction to comply with the sites own regulations.
Upon final inspection and sign off by the customer, who commented “it’s even better than we thought it was going to be”, the truck was delivered to site to the delight of the operations team and the resident health and safety manager.
